INTERVIEW

Me!

Is life at the Devon mill as idyllic as it sounds? Well, yes it would seem it is. We chat to Sonja about wonderful wool, her role and yarns at Blacker, and how your knowledge on 90’s sitcoms creates great analogies for fibre…
We also learn more about the process behind developing new blend Samite. For a behind the scenes illustrated peek you can see Katie Green’s sumptuous illustrated story in Issue 21!

REVIEW

Blacker Samite Swatch

After all that talk about the new Samite blend we had to get some on our needles too! We loved the crunchy structure of this yarn and it holds its shape after blocking beautifully. We think it would be amazing for a rustic Wick Lane!

Sounds good? Well we have three skeins of Samite up for grabs and the lovely folks at Blacker have given you a choice of whichever shade you fancy! To enter simply comment below letting us know which colour you’d like most (you can see the whole range here). Make sure you enter before 26th May as entries made after this date won’t count.

Samite Group Shot
Thanks for listening! As always we love to hear from you folks. You can either email us podcast(at)pompommag.com or join in the chats on our Ravelry group. We’ll be back at the end of May again with another regular sized episode!

Semite looks gorgeous. Three skeins would be enough for me to make a light cardigan, maybe another Hitofude. The color? Hard to choose. Maybe Peacock’s Neck, maybe Sunless Hours. Very different moods.

  56. Patricia May 23, 2017 at 6:45 pm #

  59. Chelsea B May 23, 2017 at 11:19 pm #

I love that Sonja got inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelites. I wrote a paper back in high school about the Pre-Raphaelite artists who drew their inspiration from the poets! And oh those colors are to dye for! My favs (hard to choose) are bursting figs and tide of dreams. So beautiful!

  60. Stephanie D May 23, 2017 at 11:43 pm #

Wild Bee’s Hum is my favorite color! It looks lovely!

Thanks so much for this giveaway! I’ve been keen to get my hands on some of this Samite yarn–gorgeous and lush. It’s hard (!!) to choose, but I’ll keep everything crossed and choose Burnished Night as my fave colourway 😉 Cheers

  65. Maria Wade May 24, 2017 at 5:06 pm #

Fiery Dew…I’m trying to expand the colors I wear.

  66. Susie Burdett May 24, 2017 at 6:08 pm #

What a thoughtfully put constructed yarn! I love old yew, somehow, it’s both vibrant and earthy!

  67. Diane Pyle May 25, 2017 at 12:55 am #

I have always wanted to try Blacker yarns. I would pick Bursting Figs. Thanks for another great podcast. You always make my day brighter.

  68. Vera May 25, 2017 at 7:14 am #

Ha, just discovered videopodcasts recently, some of which led me to your magazine, and I had to order one yesterday ;) I love Blacker Yarns and with Drowsy Flowers I’d dare to go out of my comfort zone, but it’s such an amazing colour!

  69. Valeria F May 25, 2017 at 9:18 am #

Gorgeous giveaway! I’d go for Old Yew. Cheers!

  70. Melanie May 25, 2017 at 11:06 am #

What lush yarns! My choice would be Old Yew. It reminds me of the green Pantone Colour of the Year. Could make a great keepsake.

  71. Cassandra May 25, 2017 at 4:54 pm #

That blend sounds amazing! So many lovely colours but I think Old Yew is my favourite.

  72. Teresa May 25, 2017 at 4:54 pm #

Oh, it’s hard to choose! Fiery Dew or Drowsy Flowers are calling to me right now! Gorgeous colors!

  73. Ursula Vocca May 25, 2017 at 5:44 pm #

If only one color is allowed I pick frozen bud. I could imagine a three color shawl like in Helen Stewart’s next Shawl Society pattern.

  74. Penny Jenkins May 25, 2017 at 5:53 pm #

Love all the Samite colours! For me it’s hard to choose between Tide of Dreams and Eternal Day, but I think Tide of Dreams just pips the others to the finishing line. Thanks for the giveaway.

  75. Julie Evans May 25, 2017 at 7:04 pm #

I love Samite – my favourite colour is Wild Bees hum.

  76. Susan Rooney May 25, 2017 at 7:54 pm #

Lovely fiery dew or burnished night

  77. Cynthia Sanford May 25, 2017 at 8:34 pm #

Hello! I enjoyed the podcast with Sonja of Blacker Yarns. After listening to a Pomcast last year I went straight to the Blacker website and ordered the special yarn for their 11th anniversary (can’t think of the name). Loved it when it arrived at my home in Washington, DC and loved that I could read more about the very sheep from which it was spun. Hearing about the process of developing the Samite line, the inspiration and how it knits up was fascinating to me. As a natural redhead, the Pre-Raphaelites were of special interest. All the colors are beautiful and if I won I would love a skein in three different colors, but if I had to choose only one it would be Drowsy Flowers because it looks to be the exact shade of chamomile and I rarely knit with a yellow/gold. The Wick Lane is a fine suggestion for using Samite, too. Thank you PomPom and Blacker. PS: I adore the podcasts.

  78. Janet May 26, 2017 at 5:36 am #

So happy for an extra episode of podcast! Thank you! All the colors of Samite are beautiful!, but bursting fig has caught my eye.

  79. Lynn May 26, 2017 at 8:57 am #

My favourite colour is Frozen Bud, but they are all wonderful.

  80. Marion May 26, 2017 at 11:21 am #

I love Blacker Yarns! All the colours are really amazing, at this moment I’d go with Burnished Night.

  81. Carol May 26, 2017 at 4:59 pm #

Hard to choose just one color. I love the idea of the Samite yarns, especially because I love William Morris and other British Arts and Crafts designs. Peacock’s Neck is the color that jumped out to me first but I’d use any of them.

  82. cvd.aviatrix May 26, 2017 at 7:07 pm #

Very difficult to choose, but I think I’d go for Bursting Figs.

  83. Kate May 27, 2017 at 2:58 am #

    Frozen Bud!

    • Kate May 27, 2017 at 2:59 am #

(and it is still May 26 where I am listening in Chicago)

  84. Rachel May 27, 2017 at 4:53 am #

    I love sunless hours
