Knitting designer and Pom pal Bristol, who we interviewed way back in Pomcast 10, is sitting in for Lydia while she’s in Austin shooting our 5th Anniversary Issue 21 (more news on that soon!). This also gives us the chance to announce our next Pom Pom Press venture… a book with Bristol Ivy!

It’s a knitting book but not as you know it! Drawing on what inspires her most when designing and teaching, her book gives different exercises to help you explore beyond the boundaries of knitting techniques, to push your creativity, manipulate fabric and with a little sprinkling of maths, help you put it altogether. It will also include several patterns by Bristol using the techniques explained in the book – we’re pretty excited about this one to say the least!

We’ll be keeping you up to date with more information until the book launches at Rhinebeck, so stay tuned. Another big event this year to put in your diary is Pomfest, which now has it’s own dedicated news section here. We’ll have special guests aplenty – including the aforementioned Bristol Ivy!

Meanwhile at Edinburgh, we had fun catching up with lots of lovely yarny folks – our heartfelt thanks to you Pomers who came by the stand to say hello, tried on samples, bought the magazine and generally made the weekend awesome! We also debuted our snazzy new show set up…

EYF 2017 Showsetup

While Bristol is busy working on top secret knits for a certain upcoming project(!), Sophie is working on her Radiate jumper from Interpretations 4 and also knitting a riot of colour with Anna Maltz’s Rockhopper Shawl. Check out the speckles which are a La Bien Aimée colourway  called ‘Pom’ that they dyed for our Christmas Party!

Lovely Studio Linen from Erika Knight is on the needles for review and has the gals discussing what they love about this fibre! The yarn is a blend of recycled linen mixed with premium natural linen and for 2017 the range includes 4 new colours inspired by the Japanese resist dyeing technique of Shibori.

If you’re thinking of getting ready for some summer knitting, we have 10 skeins of the colour Pyjama and a copy of the pattern Siena to give away! To be in with a chance of winning, comment below letting us know what your favourite spot is for summer knitting! Make sure you enter before midnight GMT on Sunday 9th April as any comments made after this date won’t count – good luck!

While at EYF we had a chat with Kate Burge and Rachel Price of Spincycle yarns – what awesome ladies! Also, check out Rachel’s fantastic Tambourine cardigan from Issue 12 knit in their yarn Verses.

Spincycle Gals at EYF

Thanks to Loop for this snap, which also includes the cowl kit the gals mention in the interview, plus their special Loop colourway – wowzers!

This episode’s top three was suggested by Pomcat Prettoemma via our Ravelry forum who asked us list our favourite fictional knitting characters . We highly recommend having a read of her comprehensive list if you need some inspiration for your own knitting heroes!

You can keep the podcast fun going by joining in the chats on the Pom Pom group. Until next time!

So, I’m very keen, and LOVE this blue shade 💙 Today was the first day that I sat out on our veranda to do some knitting, and this is definitely my fave place to do summer knitting, as it’s close to wi-fi, the kettle, the hi-fi (for tunes) and the toilet 😍

  54. Mary April 2, 2017 at 9:31 pm #

During the summer my knitting club moves to a lovely park in central Copenhagen, where we sit on picnic blankets overlooking a small lake, knitting and chatting together

My favourite knitting spot was early morning at a delightful villa we stayed in in Umbria, Italy. Early morning sunlight, no kids up yet and a good cup of coffee – what could be better?

The best summer knitting spot for me is on the balcony, next to a fresh gin cocktail💚

I m lucky enough to live in a park so I can sit in a chair outside my house and enjoy the beauty.

Now that it is almost warm again – I am looking forward to sitting out in our backyard and knitting while sipping a lovely crisp G&T.

The studio linen yarn looks amazing – sounds like it will be lovely to knit with as well.
