We took a look at La Bien Aimée’s Merino DK, a lovely squishy superwash merino, as seen in the Melli cardigan designed by Camille Rosselle for our newest Spring Issue. The colour we used is Aimée’s Sweater, and you can win a cardigan’s worth of the same colour, to make your very own Melli! What a treat! To win the yarn comment below letting us know what your favourite item to make with speckled yarn is. Make sure you enter before midnight GMT on Sunday 5th March as any comments made after this date won’t count – good luck!

The necklace shown in the picture was made by the very talented Jasmin Rowlandson, take a look at more of the gorgeous things she makes here.

TELL + TELL

Lydia is plugging away on a pair of Emily’s Favourite Socks in Viola sock yarn, as well as plotting a Tinea, ready for the weather to improve.

Lydia's socks

Sophie has been working on a Chester Basin hat from Take Heart. It’s still pretty chilly here in London so it’s important to keep heads warm!

INTERVIEWS

We spoke to John Arbon and Nancy Marchant in front of a live audience at the festival, which was a hoot, and we think you’ll agree.

john

John Arbon is of course the fibre wizard behind John Arbon Textiles. We talked to him about running his spinning mill, naming machines, and creating yarns for the likes of Daughter of a Shepherd. He also told us about the inspiration behind the new Devonia yarn, set to be launched at Edinburgh Yan Festival very soon! As it happened, it was his birthday the day we recorded, so we made sure to provide him with a themed cake. Ain’t no party like a pomcast live recording party.

Pomcast interview with Nancy Marchant
Nancy Marchant is known as the queen of brioche (the lovely squishy stitch, not the delicious food), and after talking to her at the festival we can see why. We talked about the history of the stitch, and her exploration and development of its potential.

TOP 3…

… car activities! We utilised our time during the journey back from the festival to decide on our favourite ways to pass the time when you’re in a car (or van in this case). Listen to find out what we chose! And send us your fave car activities. You can find us in our ravelry group.

Thanks again to our sponsors La Bien Aimée!

I love a speckled cardigan over a plain dress. I think Tamborine would be another great option for speckled yarn.

  2. Mary February 25, 2017 at 8:19 pm #

My favourite item to knit with speckled yarn would be a shawl. The light playing off the folds and layers when it’s wrapped around me highlights the speckles to their full effect.

  3. Mary February 25, 2017 at 8:21 pm #

I love knitting socks with speckled yarn, but would really like to knit that cardigan too! It was great to be in the audience for your interview with Nancy last week.

  5. Barbara February 25, 2017 at 8:30 pm #

My favourite item to make with a speckled yarn is a shawl. For a cardigan I prefer neutral colours, but the melli cardigan looks great!

  6. Laura February 25, 2017 at 8:37 pm #

Working on a shawl with a stripey section and a speckled eyelet section and very happy with that use of speckles. But wouldn’t mind a sweater either :-)

  7. Lene February 25, 2017 at 9:07 pm #

My favorite thing to make with speckled yarns is either crazy fun socks or as stripes in shawls.

  8. Carys February 25, 2017 at 9:38 pm #

    I love speckly brioche!

  9. Chelsea B February 25, 2017 at 10:34 pm #

I love knitting shawls with speckled yarns!!!!

  10. Natalie Williams February 25, 2017 at 11:05 pm #

Lately I’ve been giving some serious consideration to making a Vaara tee (from Pompom issue 27) out of speckled yarn!

  11. Sarah February 26, 2017 at 12:18 am #

I like shawls and long cowls that can be doubled around to protect against the Canadian winter wind!

  12. Laura February 26, 2017 at 3:14 am #

I knit a striated cowl in speckled yarn- I was mesmerized by how the colors knit up, it is quite addicting. And I plan to use the leftovers for a bit of color work in fingerless mitts.

  13. Claire February 26, 2017 at 6:57 am #

I love to make shawls with speckled yarn and am just starting to make a pair of socks. Lovely!

  14. Natalie Williams February 26, 2017 at 7:54 am #

I quite fancy whipping up a Vaara tee (Pompom issue 16) in a speckled yarn. It’s on my to knit list!

  15. Natalie Williams February 26, 2017 at 8:00 am #

Oops, I’m sorry for accidentally commenting twice, I was having technical issues. And I don’t know how I managed to get the Pompom issue wrong in both comments – blame my fat fingers! Vaara was in Issue 17. Sorry for spamming this comment thread everyone xxx

  16. MARIE-CHRISTINE COQUELET February 26, 2017 at 8:35 am #

What I prefer to knit with a speckled yarn are the two-tone shawls, stripes and lace with a plain yarn and a matching speckled yarn.

  17. Inês G. February 26, 2017 at 9:44 am #

I’ve never knit with speckly yarn! But I think I’d love to knit either socks or jumpers :)

  18. Jules February 26, 2017 at 10:13 am #

I have some speckled yarn on my needles at the moment, I am knitting a Flax by TCK for my daughter. I am making it a bit longer at the back very similar to a blog post they wrote, so I would have to say that is my favourite item.

  19. Frauke February 26, 2017 at 10:14 am #

Speckled yarn is perfect for shawls, but I love it as a nice detail on edges or in stripes. A good example is Arrosa from the current issue :)

  20. Sarah Skinner February 26, 2017 at 10:43 am #

I have actually made a sheep’s body in speckled yarn as I ran out of cream colored wool. It’s a loop stitch. The head fell off and it is now a cushion 😀

  21. Libby February 26, 2017 at 12:14 pm #

Speckled socks and shawls are my favorite, though a speckley spring cardi also sounds lovely.

  22. Aylin A. February 26, 2017 at 1:14 pm #

My favorite thing to make with speckled yarn is socks. I love just looking down and seeing the wonderful colors, it just brightens my day.

  23. Lisa favorini February 26, 2017 at 5:31 pm #

Speckled yarn? Mittens and cowls – but shawls sound good too!

  24. ikkinlala February 26, 2017 at 6:06 pm #

My favourite thing to make with speckled yarn is fun socks.

  25. Marybeth Kress February 26, 2017 at 6:43 pm #

What a terrific episode!! Loved the interviews, especially Nancy’s. Now I will finally try brioche. Maybe…

  26. Marybeth Kress February 26, 2017 at 6:47 pm #

Whoops. I meant to add that I knit all my recent baby gifts with speckled pastel yarns.

  27. Shanna February 26, 2017 at 6:51 pm #

I love a long cowl in a speckled yarn. So fun!

  28. Mariloé February 26, 2017 at 7:13 pm #

I love speckled yarn so much! I like to use it to make sweaters with a very simple design. It makes the yarn stand out more :)

  29. Margaret February 26, 2017 at 7:46 pm #

My favorite thing to make with speckled yarn is probably shawls. But that sweater! Sigh…..

  30. Gigi Wansor February 26, 2017 at 7:47 pm #

I love to make sweaters! I have many 3 so far!

  31. Linda February 26, 2017 at 8:59 pm #

My favorite thing to make with speckled yarn is . . . an octopus? (I haven’t actually knitted with speckled yarn but it looks delightful)

  32. Anne Ryder February 26, 2017 at 10:29 pm #

Baby cardis and tiny hats for my newest granddaughter.

  33. asteride February 26, 2017 at 10:35 pm #

Shawls! They are great in speckled yarn! But cardigan are totally another thing!

  34. Stephanie February 26, 2017 at 11:02 pm #

Socks! Colorful socks with an otherwise neutral outfit feel like such a fun secret!

  35. Jane February 27, 2017 at 12:28 am #

I have only just started to explore the possibilities of knitting with speckled yarn, but I can see how beautiful it would be made up into a summer shawl.

  36. Shelley February 27, 2017 at 2:29 am #

What a fantastic giveaway! I would love to make a charming sweater like the one in the magazine, or any garment with slipped stitches!

  37. Giorgia February 27, 2017 at 8:20 am #

A sweater in speckled yarn is just neat! All those nice colors!

  38. Libbi February 27, 2017 at 12:02 pm #

Speckled yarns are really fantastic in shawls (especially of the Westknits variety) but just about anything speckled is ace in my book!

  39. Francesca February 27, 2017 at 12:14 pm #

I think a two coloured yoked sweater with a strong solid grey as the contrasting colour would be great

  40. Melanie February 27, 2017 at 12:20 pm #

I’ve never knit with speckled yarn, but this cardigan is a perfect showcase for it. I’m looking forward to making this cardigan because my grandparents always called me Melli b when I was little.

  41. Rachel February 27, 2017 at 1:15 pm #

Shawls and socks! However, I’ve been drooling over Melli and definitely plan to make one!

  42. Barb February 27, 2017 at 1:28 pm #

I made two Asklov hats with speckled yarn and I’d love to make a sweater!

  43. Carol Forbes February 27, 2017 at 1:56 pm #

I bought my first skein of OOAK speckled yarn made by my LYS and am making a hat. I have been a little leery of speckled yarn looking too busy, but the colors in the Melli sweater really caught my eye! The Aimee’s Sweater color is the perfect idea of spring. I am getting tired of snow, but saw my first crocus today!

  44. Kim February 27, 2017 at 2:07 pm #

I have two cowls I love in speckled yarn, but now I need a sweater!

  45. lulu February 27, 2017 at 2:27 pm #

Scarf, shawl, mitts, endless possibilities with speckled yarn. Thank you for the incredible giveaway! I’d love to knit the Melli cardigan!

  46. PENNY February 27, 2017 at 3:11 pm #

To be honest, I have never used a speckled yarn. I would love to. I’m currently knitting a top-down sweater in a lovely blue, but I think a speckled yarn would keep me more engaged in the process.

  47. Janet February 27, 2017 at 5:45 pm #

Love speckley socks! So fun! Thanks!

  48. Naomi February 27, 2017 at 7:41 pm #

I love to make shawls in speckled yarns. However, seeing how pretty it looks in a sweater, I’d love to try one.

  49. nina February 27, 2017 at 10:33 pm #

I’m new to speckled yarn but I’m making a Find Your Fade shawl using some and loving it. I would love to make a Melli Cardi!

  50. Laura February 28, 2017 at 12:47 am #

I like to make cowls in speckled yarns, but I also LOVE that cardigan…really shows the yarn to advantage.

  51. Emina February 28, 2017 at 9:31 am #

Shawls + socks, but this cardigan would be perfect! Thanks also for a terrific episode – really enjoyed both interviews (and the rest!).

  52. Kate February 28, 2017 at 10:59 am #

My favourite thing to make with speckled yarn is all the things! So far I’ve made socks, a shawl and a cardigan and my obsession doesn’t seem to be lessening any time soon! I would love to make the Melli cardigan, it’s an absolute beaut!

  53. Judy N February 28, 2017 at 11:32 am #

I have not actually knitted with the current style of speckled yarn (gasp, I know), but I have seen some very fun socks with speckles.

  54. Ella February 28, 2017 at 11:50 am #

I love using speckled yarn in socks and especially using them with a solid colour to make stripy socks, the combination is always so lovely to look at!

  55. Julie Belliveau February 28, 2017 at 1:05 pm #

My favourite thing to do with speckle yarn is socks or shawls. I would love a cardigan in some speckles as well :)

  56. Mary Beth February 28, 2017 at 4:37 pm #

I’ve only knit socks with speckled yarn so far, but that yarn looks like it would make a wonderful cardigan for my daughter (who might be attending St. Andrews in the fall).

  57. GreekCoral February 28, 2017 at 4:59 pm #

Love speckled yarn! It’s great for everything but I only made one hat. It would be great to make such a cute cardigan!

  58. Susie Burdett February 28, 2017 at 7:31 pm #

I love the look of speckled yarn, but my wool allergy really restricts my options! I think speckled yarn is good for everything, intersecting a pop of fun, but a cardie or shawl is probably best of all, as it can transform an outfit!

  59. Melissa M Alexander February 28, 2017 at 8:38 pm #

I love to make shawls out of speckled yarn! The shawl format really makes the yarn shine :)

  60. Dawn February 28, 2017 at 9:22 pm #

I would love to make Melli in speckled yarn! In La Bien Aimee :) I have been on the lookout for a good speckled yarn project and was pretty excited to see this cardi! I haven’t knit speckled yet and but am excited to try it out!

  61. Anna February 28, 2017 at 9:40 pm #

I haven’t knit with speckled yarn yet but have one skein of it that I am planning to make into a brioche shawl or cowl. I would love to make Meli with Aimee’s sweater. It’s darling!

  62. Katherine March 1, 2017 at 2:07 pm #

I love speckled yarn for fun shawls, to add a pop of color to your outfit!!K

  63. Sidsel Flock Bachmann March 1, 2017 at 4:01 pm #

Lovely yarn! If I am the lucky one, I will knit the Brooklyn teeed “koto” – or simply the super nice Melly cardigan from the last Pom Pom Issue 😀 Lots of love and thanks for the podcast and the magazine!

Speckled fibers add so much beauty in my projects, whether knitting or crocheting .I use it for mitts and hats. But this cardigan is gorgeous with the speckled colors. It really shows the detail and goes with a lot of outfits.

  65. Micaela March 1, 2017 at 6:19 pm #

I would love to knit a really simple boxy pullover with speckled yarn!

  66. Stephanie March 1, 2017 at 6:19 pm #

My favorite item to make with speckled yarn is shawls with stripes sections.. but with THIS yarn I would really love to knit a sweater !

  69. Emma March 1, 2017 at 6:25 pm #

I love speckled yarns as a contrast, or in stripes. Mostly I have knit socks with speckled yarns before, they always turn out cute and fun!

  70. Meghan March 1, 2017 at 6:25 pm #

I love speckled everything! Hats, mitts, scarves, cowls, socks…I’m relatively new to sweater knitting, though, so I’d love to add one to my wardrobe!

  71. Lesley March 1, 2017 at 6:27 pm #

For sure my favourite item to knit with speckled yarn is socks but of course anytime you can put speckled yarn to use it’s a good thing! 😊

  72. Saila March 1, 2017 at 6:28 pm #

My favourite item to make with speckled yarn is a simple sweater.

  73. Kate n March 1, 2017 at 6:28 pm #

I just made a hat and love it!!

    A speckled cropped sweater!

  78. Robin Miles March 1, 2017 at 6:34 pm #

I love making shawls with speckled yarn, but I have a serious spring bug right now and want to make a feminine cardigan or shrug to wear as the weather warms up.

  79. Nicole March 1, 2017 at 6:35 pm #

I’m new to speckled yarn…but I’m currently really enjoying my current shawl knits with speckles (Find your Fade and Snowmelt). I’d love to try it in a garment.

  80. Ruth Buchanan March 1, 2017 at 6:36 pm #

I haven’t managed to knit too much with speckled yarn yet but so far my favorite thing has been socks. Would love to make a cardigan to show off the loveliness!

  81. Diane Parkman March 1, 2017 at 6:36 pm #

I’ve only knit socks with speckled yarn but that cardigan looks gorgeous! Will be happy to give it a try if I am the lucky winner.

  82. Raven J March 1, 2017 at 6:37 pm #

I’ve never knit with speckled yarn, though there’s a skein in my stash waiting to be turned into a shawl. Melli is turning me around on speckled yarn for garments, though!

  83. Ruth Buchanan March 1, 2017 at 6:37 pm #

My favorite so far is socks but I’d love to try some dk speckles and do a cardigan to show it all off!

  84. Sierra Morningstar March 1, 2017 at 6:40 pm #

I’ve never knit anything with speckled yarn. But I would love to try a sweater of a fun shawl. Thanks for the giveaway!

  85. Louise March 1, 2017 at 6:41 pm #

T-shirts and boxy jumpers are beautiful in speckled yarns. But my favourite thing for speckled yarns is blankets. They allow you to mix and match different types of speckled yarns and different colour ways together without being too much.

  86. Mia March 1, 2017 at 6:48 pm #

I have just cast on a Flax light by tin can knits in a speckled yarn as the main colour but striped with two solid colours. Sounds crazy but I think it’ll be lush.

  87. Lois March 1, 2017 at 6:48 pm #

I love jumpers and speckles together, means you can really show them off!

  88. Emma March 1, 2017 at 6:48 pm #

Sweaters look fab in speckled yarn

  89. Emma March 1, 2017 at 6:50 pm #

I’ve always used speckled yarn for socks, but Melli has convinced me I can no longer live without a speckled cardi. I hunted high and low at Unravel for the perfect speckled yarn to make it in, but I think it’s gotta be the La Bien Aimee (which I’ve been dying to try anyway!)

  90. Natasha Gresham March 1, 2017 at 6:54 pm #

Hat! I made stovetop recently with a dark green speckle wool, and a plain outfit can really be brought to life with a speckled hat!

  91. Bobby March 1, 2017 at 7:01 pm #

I have only been knitting for 6 months and must confess gave not yet had the pleasure to knit with speckled yarn, so far. If I was to use this yarn I believe it would be super to use it on the melli as I too fell in love with it. Otherwise it would most definitely be for socks!

  92. Isabel March 1, 2017 at 7:01 pm #

Speckles yarn is used here for knitting shawls and socks mainly, but I love them too for sweaters.

  93. Dawn kettlewell March 1, 2017 at 7:02 pm #

It has to be a summer shawl

  94. Della Hartley March 1, 2017 at 7:16 pm #

Speckled socks are so much fun and quick but I would love try a sweater with swoon worthy la Bien Aimée 😍

  95. Sabine March 1, 2017 at 7:17 pm #

I love to use speckles in shawls. Alone, or together with semisolids in various colours.
Brioche is perefect for this. But also a cardigan, shirt or shrug is a great way to show the joy of knit with speckles.

  96. Becca March 1, 2017 at 7:26 pm #

Speckled yarn is always fab (especially since it can quite forgiving of any little errors!). I particularly love it for blankets, and thick cabled lounge socks, but seeing the Melli cardigan (which is the knitwear pattern of my dreams), I think that might be a new favourite!

  97. Helena March 1, 2017 at 7:29 pm #

    Defo speckled socks and jumpers!

  98. Jenny Ackerman March 1, 2017 at 7:30 pm #

Speckled sweaters are my favorite for sure!

  99. Izzy March 1, 2017 at 7:32 pm #

My favourite thing to knit with speckled wool is socks! :)

  100. Karin March 1, 2017 at 7:34 pm #

So far I have only knitted a shawl in speckled yarn. I would love to try a sweater or a cardigan. I totally love LBA’s speckled yarns!

  101. Noriko March 1, 2017 at 7:36 pm #

Speckled brioche is super fun! <3!

  102. Anouk March 1, 2017 at 7:50 pm #

I love speckled yarn and usually prefer knitting acessories with it. But if I won, I’d knit that cardigan. Love it so much!

  103. Juliet March 1, 2017 at 8:09 pm #

I’d love to use speckled yarn for a hat or socks. Or a shawl. But that cardi is so charming, too!

  104. AnneLaure March 1, 2017 at 8:11 pm #

I love speckled yarns and if an easy and lovely way to knit it is for a shawl, I also love a speckled cardigan or sweater over a pair of jeans !

  105. Julia March 1, 2017 at 8:14 pm #

I want a simple sweater to let the yarn shine (I have unfortunately never used speckled yarn)

  106. Xus Blasco March 1, 2017 at 8:16 pm #

A dandelion stitch baby blanket world be a dream!! Or a cardigan, a springy sweater… That yarn is scrumptious

  107. Cris March 1, 2017 at 8:18 pm #

My favourite speckled thing to knit are socks and hats. This yarn is amazing and it looks lovely used in the Melli cardigan! If I could knit my very own, it would be a dream!

  108. Joani Feiner March 1, 2017 at 8:20 pm #

I love using speckled yarn for both socks and shawls, but I would absolutely love to make a sweater with this gorgeous yarn!

  109. Nanna March 1, 2017 at 8:20 pm #

I am dreaming about knitting the melli cardigan, and I just love that colorway for it. Looks so beautiful!

  110. Sarah March 1, 2017 at 8:20 pm #

I love speckled yarn in matching mommy and baby items, like hats or sweaters. Depending on the speckle they can be soft and sweet or bold and loud, to match the personalities of the intended.

  111. Laurel March 1, 2017 at 8:28 pm #

I’d use the cheerful yarn for a cardigan or socks. I have yet to have to use speckled yarn and would love to, soon!

  112. Catherine Stewart March 1, 2017 at 8:30 pm #

I think my favourite item would have to be legwarmers and boot-toppers! Something super fun, quick and easy to knit.

  113. Rosie March 1, 2017 at 8:31 pm #

I tried on the sample cardigan at unravel and am desperate to make it, so this would be my favourite thing to make in speckled yarn!

  114. Angela March 1, 2017 at 8:42 pm #

Shawls, hats, mitts, and sweaters! What *isn’t* more fun with a speckled yarn?! Enough to knit a sweater would be wonderful ❤👍🏻.

  115. Angela March 1, 2017 at 8:48 pm #

Shawls, hats, mitts, socks, sweaters….what *isnt* more fun with speckles?! Enough to make a sweater would be wonderful! ❤👍🏻

  116. Emelie March 1, 2017 at 8:49 pm #

I haven’t worked alot with speckled yarns before, but I keep thinking that it would look amazing for a sweater like Fairchild from Pompom 11. It would be so much fun to try that out!

  117. Sarah P March 1, 2017 at 8:55 pm #

I prefer knitting baby things wth speckles, but I could easily knit and wear this cardigan!

  118. MartaGG March 1, 2017 at 9:04 pm #

  119. Emily March 1, 2017 at 9:06 pm #

I’ve only attempted small things with speckles so far, my favourite being my Asklöv hat. It’s addictive knitting watching to see what colour each stitch comes out!

  120. Priscilla Rule March 1, 2017 at 9:21 pm #

Would so love to knit with this gorgeous yarn, every time I see all the amazing “la Bien Aimee”colours I fall in love. The pattern is beautiful – very much looking forward to receiving my latest Pom Pom Mag here in Australia.

I love making shawls and am probably quite obsessed with them if I’m honest! I haven’t used speckled yarn before, but with so many amazing yarns and colours available, I would love to have a go at using some. You won’t be surprised to hear that I would probably make a shawl. Or a pair of socks. Or a cardigan of course…! Just discovered your magazine and I love it!!

  130. Johanna March 1, 2017 at 10:52 pm #

  134. Christina March 1, 2017 at 11:38 pm #

I love using speckled yarn to compliment solids and semi-solids. The speckles shine through the base while the solid is amplified! Beautiful

I love to use speckled Yarn for a simple shawl or sweater and let the Yarn do the talking.

  136. Yoonjae March 2, 2017 at 2:45 am #

  140. Skye March 2, 2017 at 7:45 am #

I’ve been dreaming about getting some spreckeld yarn for ages but since I have no LYS in my area, it’s hard to tell online.
Once I saw that cardigan knit in that yarn my heart stopped. I physically need this in my life! 💓

  141. Lisa V March 2, 2017 at 7:53 am #

I’d knit that cardigan with the speckled yarn. I love it!

  143. Ainhoa March 2, 2017 at 2:37 pm #

My favourite object to knit with speckeled yarn until now was simple vanilla socks. However, with a dk I would opt for a stockinette stitch sweater to highlight the speckles and let thme shine!

  144. Simone Neumann March 2, 2017 at 2:48 pm #

The yarn looks like a sample board of an artist, absolutely beautiful. I would try to make the mellie cardigan, but it would be a challenge for me, because I normally crochet…

  145. Jo Bowler March 2, 2017 at 10:17 pm #

Oh I love speckles for any and every project! My first cardigan I knitted was speckled and it gives me a warm happy feeling every time I wear it. Speckled socks and speckled shawls are perfect too! Thanks for the chance to win such stunning yarn!! c

I have several cardigans and jumpers in my ravelry queue though….(as I’m sure we all do?!)….so if I were to win then I would probably knit a jumper! Maybe a Boxy?

I usually prefer to use speckled yarn for shawls and scarves, but I recently knit a speckled cardigan and I love it! It might just change my habits ;)

I spotted Andrea Mowry’s amazing Briochealicious shawl on one of the gals at Fancy Tiger. She said her only regret was not using a speckled yarn as the main color. So that’s what I did and it is beyond gorgeous!

  161. Jeanne March 2, 2017 at 11:23 pm #

I have always been a little scared of speckled yarns as I cannot foresee how the colours knit up. But everytime I have used them, it’s magic. For now I have used then on smaller projects like fingerless mitts, and shawls, so those I the ones I love. But I would be thrilled to try a sweater!

  162. Anne L. March 2, 2017 at 11:25 pm #

  164. Emily March 2, 2017 at 11:36 pm #

What I like knitting in speckles is something I can put a main natural base with. A Toft tube cowl with a speckle and natural is lovely. Or using it as a yoke just showcases the speckles.

  165. Emilie March 2, 2017 at 11:38 pm #

I would definately knit a cardigan / crop sweater with this yarn. It’s gorgeous and la bien-aimé is on my list of yarn to try this year!

I loved this Pomcast- the absolute highlight of my week. Now I must confess I’ve not used speckled yarn before. That is, until I saw la Bien Aimee at the PomPom Christmas party! So I bought two skeins. Then I bought two more. And then two more last week. So I’m going to cast on a find your fade shawl! Then raid my stash and knit some socks with some of the more neon speckled yarns! Yay! I like the looks of Lydia’s socks there so I think I’ll explore that pattern.

Summer cardi would be perfect to be knitted from specled yarn. Thank you for chance. How nice of you!

  225. Vittoria March 3, 2017 at 3:21 pm #

Speckled yarn is so pretty. Favourites are hard to choose as speckles really do look good on everything. If I have to choose, then it needs to be something I can look at, like my feet (socks), or my hands (mitts). Though the Melli is definitely my next knit and it will be in a speckle. Fingers crossed!!

  226. Katie Wheeler March 3, 2017 at 3:51 pm #

I love knitting any shawls or scarf with speckles but this sweater is divine!

  228. Ros March 3, 2017 at 5:14 pm #

I love making hats from speckled yarn!

Socks and cardigans look fantastic but get covered up by shoes and coats half the time (unless it’s coming up to spring and summer).

Everyone can see the gorgeous yarn when it’s smack on top of your head!

  229. Rosalind March 3, 2017 at 5:18 pm #

I signed up for Pom pom at unravel just for this pattern!

I like making hats from speckled yarn.

Socks and cardigans look great but they get covered up half the time, you get your money’s worth from hats though, it’s smaxk on top of your head to show off the gorgeous colours (though I still speckle everything. It all looks good).

  230. Wei-Lin March 3, 2017 at 7:25 pm #

  237. taxing March 4, 2017 at 12:09 pm #

I really wasn’t down with speckled yarn, then I saw Melli and was completely won over. Now I’m a total convert and I really want to make Melli in speckled yarn. The little bee stitch pattern just works so well with it.

I enjoyed joining you guys in the car! I get car sick, and you suggested a couple of things to do that I haven’t tried, so during my next car journey I’ll try making up little scenarios out of the last letters of the number plates around me.

  238. Sara March 4, 2017 at 2:22 pm #

I would make a speckled sweater for sure. It’s gorgeous and any leftovers would go into a speckled pop of a shawl. I am about to start nordic arrows and would love to put it in that!

  239. Namita Karir March 4, 2017 at 2:23 pm #

Everything is better in speckled yarn! But I do particularly like socks :)

  240. Sara March 4, 2017 at 3:40 pm #

I’ve not used speckled yarn – but I do have a skein on my shelf that I keep looking at and worrying that I might make the wrong decision about what to use it for – it’s so beautiful! Reading some of these comments have really convinced me that it needs to be a shawl. I think.

I love speckled shawls and sweaters. I made a cute Madame Entrechat with Tosh’s Comsic Wonderdust and am soon to start a Find Your Fade with Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles. I also adore La Bien Aimee’s yarn and wish it was more available in the US. I have an SQ of Direwolf Graffitti that I’m planning to use for a simple pullover.

By far I have been using it for shawls, but such a cardigan would be nice, too.

I love socks in speckled yarn, but there’s a lovely new pattern called Saint-Chapelle that uses speckled yarn and black to give the look of stained glass windows! Perhaps a really loud, bright speckle could become more wearable for someone like me who shies away from too much crazy color in a context like this! The yarn for the Melli sweater is subtle enough though that I wouldn’t be afraid to wear it! ;-)

Socks and shawls are my favourites for speckled yarn!
