Not content with only bringing you beautiful patterns, we’re also making sure you lovely knitters have all the tips and techniques you need with our video tutorials.

Our latest video takes you through the afterthought technique. By knitting in a line of waste yarn, you can later pick up these stitches to create an insert once you’ve finished – hence the term afterthought! Once mastered, you’ll be able to add thumbs, heels, and pockets to your knits.

You’ll find this method used to create the flowing handkerchief hem of Trailbreeze by Courtney Cedarholm from our summer issue.

As we mentioned, you can use this method to create a heel too, seen here on the Camp & Trail socks from Issue 5.

We hope these videos give you the confidence and know-how to pick your needles and try them out on a new project. We’ll be bringing you more with the arrival of the Autumn and Winter issues this year, so watch this space.

Our thanks to Blue Sky Fibers who have sponsored these videos and provided the Spud & Chloë yarn that you see us knitting away with!

I bought the summer pompom issue intending to do the shawl, but I fought it quite difficult reading the pattern description. Do you have a diagram that I can follow?

What a great simple, useful tutorial. Thank you for presenting something over-and-above standard knitting, in a relatively simple manner. I’ve been buying your magazine for a while, but am even more of a fan of Pom Pom now, after reading through your blog.
