BEHIND THE SCENES: ISSUE 8

Behind the Scenes: Pom Pom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014

Waaay back in darkest January, we were dreaming of spring. Bright pastels, ice creamy colours, cool breezes in the sunshine. In reality it was bloody freezing and a bit drizzly. Luckily, for the first time ever we were shooting in a bright studio! Tucked away in London’s Hackney, we were up early, snapping away and feeling all sunny inside.

Behind the Scenes: Pom Pom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014We had this whole blank white space to fill with knitted goodness, and then with Lydia’s illustrations.

Behind the Scenes: Pom Pom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014 This is our beautiful model, Emma, working it with Brill.

Brill by Anna Wilkinson for Pom Pom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014Juju, our photographer clearly has better skills than we do with our phone photography, and Lydia’s cute little grasshopper really added that touch of whimsy we were going for. (As a side note, if you’ve been on the London Underground recently, you might have also spotted Emma on the big tube posters for the Affordable Art Fair!)

We had a particularly fun time with our models’ amazing hair, from Emma’s gorgeous curls to Nadia’s lavender locks! Here’s Lidia (the other Lidia), hair and makeup artist extraordinaire, working her magic: Behind the Scenes: Pom Pom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014

We loved how little Lidia is compared to tall Emma – they look adorable here!

Behind the Scenes: Pom Pom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014Lidia and Nadia were a bit more equal height-wise but the white backdrop made our helper Thea look super-tall! The white backdrop was excellent for playing havoc on our depth perception that day.

Behind the Scenes: Pom Pom Quarterly, Issue 8: Spring 2014Naturally, with all the hard work that a photo shoot entails we couldn’t resist getting a bit silly.

At the end of the day, we were pretty proud of this little pile of knits. Photo shoot day is one of our favourite days in the Pom Pom calendar – we get to be creative, and all the planning we do for an issue starts to come together. Unbelievably, the photo shoot for our next issue is almost upon us! We like to keep you all in the loop while we’re shooting, so make sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for live behind-the-scenes action!
