Matching Pianissimo scarves from Issue 14, Autumn 2015

Autumn issues put us in mind of starting anew. Perhaps it is that back to school feeling. Though most of us have moved beyond that point in our lives where ‘new year’ means September instead of January, it seems there’s no escaping the feeling of freshness that cool, crisp weather brings.

For Pom Pom the Back to School theme has added meaning this year, as we will graduate into the world of book publishing this autumn. Stay tuned for news over the coming months of titles, topics, and the all important release dates! In addition to our first ever Pom Pom book we have lots of woolly shows and projects lined up this season, so in anticipation of the exciting knitting calendar ahead we’re inviting you to share with us, over the August bank holiday weekend, the ways that you are readying your knitting lives for the coming autumn.

So now we’ve revealed a snippet of what’s on our timetable we want to hear from you! What’s on your knitting reading list? What essential notions are in your knitting pencil cases? Perhaps Anna Maltz’s autumn column on knitting local inspired you to pick up some further reading, like Clara Parke’s ‘The Knitter’s Book of Wool‘. Or maybe PPQ’s trip to the John Arbon mill has inspired you to take a knitting field trip of your own. We expect many of you are also taking part in one of the autumn KAL’s over on Ravelry, after all this time of year means a need for more knitwear! There is the Very Shannon SSKAL, which encourages knitters to cast on a sweater to knit during summer, ready to wear in the Autumn, Joji’s Fall KAL, and of course Pom Pom’s own autumn KAL, amongst many more.

So, for this long weekend (in the UK, at least!) we’d like to see snaps of your autumn knitting prep, be they WIPs, tool kits or essential reading. Just post your picture on our Ravelry thread, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #backtoschoolknitting for a chance to win some lovely prizes including new yarns from two of our favourite independent UK producers.

Ooh very excited about your book publishing news! I’m most of the way through Hannah Fettig’s Lesley cardigan for me, & then will be starting on some new baby knits!
