Episode 64 - Kiyomi and Sachiko Burgin

Hi Pomcats! Autumn is in full swing for many of us, what are your knitting plans this season? Well, what better way to get inspired than to cosy up with our latest episode and enjoy our chat with authors Kiyomi and Sachiko Burgin.

This episode is sponsored by Oysters and Purls – Sustainable. Traceable. Responsible. Oysters and Purls sources only natural fibres for use in all of their yarns, including wool, alpaca, and mohair from small farms across the US. The yarns are worsted-spun at Battenkill Fibers, a woman-owned carding and spinning mill in upstate New York, with a commitment to minimizing impacts to their place on the land while providing fair wage jobs for people in their community. Yarns are dyed in an array of soft shades with botanical extracts by Green Matters Dye Company. From now until 30th November 2021, our listeners can get an exclusive 10% discount on any purchase at oystersandpurls.com by using the code POMCAST at checkout!

Interview

We wanted to hear all about their recent Pom Pom Press publication, Moon and Turtle! This collaborative project between the twin sisters infuses unique and contemporary design details with classic knitwear styles, and features lots of easy instructions to make a custom fit.

We also chat about what it was like producing a book during the pandemic, the process of working together and the important meaning behind the book's title.

Knit Chat

Of course Lydia and Sophie had to have a chat about what projects would find their way onto their needles next! We give a shout out to the Pokapoka hat (check out the adorable acorn-equse finish instead of a pompom, pictured above!) and the Zenar socks (pictured below). A fav amongst most of the Pom team is the cover star Kordy (did you see the swatching blog post here?) and the cosy cabled cardigan Cesium.

Thanks for listening! Remember you can keep in touch with us and other Pomcast listeners via our Ravelry forum here, and you can send us your musings via email (podcast@pompommag.com).
