At Rhinebeck we swooned over the skeins and the sheep, and of course spotted sweaters! A shout out to the many knitters we saw who had made Ixchel's, plus Emily's personal favourite spot - Kate Davies's Strathendrick. It was such a treat to meet so many of you in person, thanks everyone for stopping by the stand!
The weekend was the exclusive preview of our Winter Issue 27 and Emily's new book Knits About Winter. We'll have more news about Issue 27 in our next episode, including an interview with guest editor Norah Gaughan.
In this episode, Emily talks through the process and inspiration behind some of the designs, including the Frost Tunic (above), the Barn Jumper, and the Interchangeable Mitten Liners. Also pictured above is the Skyhill Hat, which gets a mention as the Pom WIP of choice during the snowy photoshoot earlier this year. Thanks to Sachiko and Kiyomi Burgin for being our intrepid models! Of course, what would a yarn and fibre festival be without a few additions to one's stash?! We extol the virtues of Harrisville Tweed's Peace Fleece and their new yarn Night Shades. Other show favourites included Hope Spinnery, Green Mountain Spinnery, and new-to-us find Bartlett Yarns. Lydia was delighted by, and purchased mud dyes from Loop of the Loom and an equally thrilled Emily found a tribute to her dog Lucy at Laura Wilensky's ceramics stand.
The Knits About Winter trunk show will be travelling around, starting at Loop in London on 17th November, and then on to Emily's home country, Canada.
Up first is Toronto, at Bookhou on 6th December (tickets available here), then Montreal at La Maison Tricotee on 3rd January (tickets here), and Hamilton at Hand Knit Yarn on 24th January (tickets here). Each location will play host to a launch night featuring the Knits About Winter trunk show and a book signing with the lovely Emily, plus Viola classes over the corresponding weekend.
